Bob Mallard

Bob Mallard has fly fished for over forty years.  He has traveled the country fishing many of its best-known trout waters.  Bob is a Registered Maine Fishing Guide and former owner of Kennebec River Outfitters, a full-service fly shop and outfitter in Madison, Maine.  He is a fly designer for Catch Fly Fishing in Billings, Montana, with over 30 cataloged patterns.  Bob's flies have appeared in books (Guide Flies, Caddisflies, America's Favorite Flies) as well as Fly Tyer and American Angler magazines.  Bob is a blogger and free-lance writer whose work has appeared in many local, regional and national publications including Northwoods Sporting Journal, The Maine Sportsman, Fly Fishing New England, Eastern Fly Fishing, Tenkara Angler, The Fiberglass Manifesto, Southern Trout, OrvisNews, Fly Life Magazine, MidCurrent, Angling Trade, Fly Tyer, Fly Fishing & Tying Journal, Fly Rod & Reel, Fly Fish America, Fly Fisherman, and Outdoor Life.  He is the author of three books: 50 Best Places Fly Fishing the Northeast, 25 Best Towns Fly Fishing for Trout, and Squaretail: The Definitive Guide to Brook Trout and Where to Find Them.  Bob contributed chapters to several other books as well: 50 Best Tailwaters to Fly Fish (Gunn), 25 Best National Parks to Fly Fish (Gunn), The Hunt for Giant Trout (Mayer), and Maine Sporting Camps (Smith.)  He is currently working on a book about Maine fly patterns and another about fly fishing in Maine.  Bob has had several regular columns including The Technical Fly Fisher (Northwoods Sporting Journal,) Gearhead and The Fiberglass (R)evolution (Southern Trout,) and is currently writing Native Fish Talk (Northwoods Sporting Journal,) and contributing regular conservation content for MidCurrent.   He is also the Regional Editor and Publisher for Fly Fish America magazine.  Lastly, Bob is a native fish advocate, and founding member and Executive Director for Native Fish Coalition of Native Fish Coalition.

Emily Bastian

Emily Bastian has fly fished since she was a young child.  She has traveled the country and world fly fishing waters most of us could only dream of.  She is a Registered Maine Fishing Guide, degreed ecologist, advanced martial artist, firearms expert, archery instructor, fly tyer (and niece of well-known tyer Don Bastian,) solo backpacker, and all-around and unmatched outdoors person.  Emily is a former game warden, law enforcement agent, and park ranger.  She has worked for the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife, National Park Service, Maine Audubon, Appalachian Mountain Club, and Trident Fly Fishing.  Emily was also the coordinator for the joint Audubon/TU/MDIFW Maine Brook Trout Survey Project for 5 years.  She is currently working for L. L. Bean in Freeport, Maine, the first female group leader in the Hunt/Fish department.  Emily is a founding member, National Vice Chair, and former Maine Chair for Native Fish Coalition.
